cough. cough. hack. hack. sniffle. snort.
It was a slow weekend. It is taking forever for me to get over this cold. I’m still hacking and sniffling and my throat feels constantly dry. It’s not bad enough to make me want to crawl in bed but it’s enough that it tires me easily. So, mostly, I holed up this weekend and read and watched movies. I did get out on Saturday afternoon for a tango workshop and then yesterday for a talk on Fundamentalism in Christianity and Islam (hence the reason I was in the aforementioned church).
My kitty is sick. Has some sort of systemic infection. Maybe we gave each other strep. Now, he’s on antibiotics too but is throwing them up. So, back to the vet today to try a different kind. Poor little guy.
And if that don’t beat all, finally the fourth tire on my car went flat. The rims have been rusting and the seals breaking one by one over the last few months. I’m getting really good at changing a tire. But the timing for this one was good. Snow is coming. Tonight. So, like everyone else in town, I took my car over this morning and waited 2 hours for the tire guys to put the studded snows on. I whiled away the time finishing off the #9 Stephanie Plum mystery and sucking on a smoothie in the nearby health food cafe where Cornelius the ebullient smoothie maker makes every guest feel like their arrival just made his day.
All in all, I’m tired but in a pretty decent mood and don’t particularly feel like complaining.
I started making audible sounds in the lower register of my voice today. Hooray! It’s still not 100% there, so I don’t want to push it, but I was able to make a couple of short phone calls and be understood. It’s sounds kinda squeaky and yodel-y. Kinda cute, actually. But nothing I’d wish for permanently. The Internets say that I still might need 3 to 10 days for it to come back. The sooner the better as far as I’m concerned. All this gargling with salt water is killing my taste buds.
I must be feeling better because I’m getting a little stir crazy. 3 books, 1 movie, 2 episodes of Seinfeld, and lots of naps later and tonight’s entertainment is going to be loading up the kitty on cat nip and watching the evening unfold.
Sho’ nuf. I’ve got strep. Which, as far as I’m concerned, is better than having the flu. At least, this is gonna go away quickly with anitbiotics. So, I’m quarantined until noon tomorrow. Thanks to for a constant supply of Stephanie Plum novels. I finished #5 last night and started #6 this morning.
Stayed home from work today. And in some sort of cosmic sympathy, my internet is sick today too. Which also means my phone is out. And since there’s nothing on daytime TV that doesn’t make me want to shoot myself, I’ve mostly been sleeping and sitting in a hot tub reading the #4 Stephanie Plum murder. Blessedly, the oogies have not moved much into my sinuses. So, I can reasonably enjoy the rest.
For some strange reason, I have a craving for ravioli.
